Variety claims that Cooper is eager to win the part of Lucifer, and is likely to begin negotiations soon, although the report notes that an offer has yet to be made.
Dark City director Alex Proyas has been tapped to direct the film, which tells the story of a war between archangels Michael and Lucifer.
As well as a potential role in Paradise Lost, Cooper has also recently entered into negotiations for the lead part in Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's reboot of cult classic The Crow.
Legendary Pictures has yet to make any statement regarding Cooper's potential involvement with the project.
Cooper's last film Limitless topped the US box office, and he will next appear in the comedy sequel The Hangover: Part II on May 26.
