The Rolling Stones guitarist spoke to the Los Angeles Times about the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, stating that he is still surprised that he is allowed to be part of the franchise.
"No one is more surprised by all of it than me," Richards said. "I never expected to work for the Disney organisation for a while. I'm still shocked, but, hey, it's all good fun."
Richards first appeared in 2007's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, the third film in the highly-successful series, in which he played Captain Jack Sparrow's (Johnny Depp) father Captain William Teague.
In the same interview, director Rob Marshall revealed that Depp and Richards work amazingly well together.
"[Richards] and Johnny have an extraordinary chemistry together, and they really love each other,' Marshall said.
He continued: "What worked out really nicely is that instead of a cameo, [Richards's character] is actually really part of the storytelling and he puts the plot in motion in a way. He sends Jack on his quest, and it really brings a smile to your face when you see them on screen together."
Depp recently said that he finds Richards "fascinating".
