Deadline reports that the Law-Abiding Citizen director has officially joined the project. The site has also confirmed that Avatar star Sam Worthington is still attached to play the film's main character.
Adapted from Rick Remender's Radical Comics miniseries, Gray will direct from a script by William Monahan and Jarl Gajdusek.
Set in the near future, the story follows a group of criminals who decide to execute one final heist before the government launches a signal that will eliminate people's desire to commit crimes.
The film will be Worthington's next project after he completes filming on the fantasy sequel Wrath of the Titans.
The Last Days of American Crime is scheduled to begin filming in September.
