The Australian actor, who is best known for his recent role in superhero movie Thor, has been linked to the role of the huntsman who becomes Snow White's protector and mentor.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the talks between Hemsworth and Universal Studios have put plans for the movie back on the right track after directors allegedly struggled to find their leading man.
Other actors previously linked to the role included Viggo Mortensen, Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman and Joel Edgerton.
The film, which is directed by Rupert Sanders, is believed to star Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Charlize Theron as the evil queen and Pirates of the Caribbean actor Sam Claflin as the prince.
Claflin recently said that he was "flabbergasted" to have won the role but is "looking forward" to starring alongside Stewart and sinking his teeth into "something new".
