British director Gurinder Chadha has confirmed that she will helm the new big-screen adaptation of '80s TV show Dallas.
Chadha, most famous for directing Bend It Like Beckham, announced that she has signed a deal with 20th Century Fox to direct the film. John Travolta will star as the famous J.R. Ewing, with Jennifer Lopez lined up to play his wife Sue Ellen.
Chadha said the film would be "very true to the original series". She continued: "But it's set today and all the characters are much more extreme versions of how we remember them."
In light of the opportunity, she is making no mistake about the challenge that awaits her: "I've got to deliver something to them (the public) that's contemporary but at the same time doesn't trample on their nostalgic dreams".
