Dark Shadows, starring Burton's wife Helena Bonham Carter and regular collaborator Johnny Depp, will launch in May next year.
Adapted from the gothic soap opera of the same name, which aired on ABC during the '60s, the film will follow the lives of a family who move into a haunted house.
Depp will play the film's lead character, a vampire called Barnabas Collins, while Carter will star as alcoholic doctor Julia Hoffman.
Other names confirmed for the film include Kick-Ass star Chloe Moretz, Stardust actress Michelle Pfeiffer and former Bond girl Eva Green.
The film's music will once again be handled by Burton favourite Danny Elfman.
Dark Shadows will hit cinemas on May 11, 2012.
