The Inception actor spoke to Screen Crave about his latest film, opening up about what he admires in the loner.
"What I like about him is he's really present," said Gordon-Levitt. "He's detached himself from a lot of the things that I think we all carry around with us, like our material things, our cars, and our houses, and our clothes, and our this and that. He's detached himself from the future."
In Hesher, Gordon-Levitt plays a man in his 20s named Hesher who becomes a bad influence on a 13-year-old boy. The film also stars Natalie Portman and Rainn Wilson.
Gordon-Levitt went on to state that Hesher's eccentric lifestyle has its merits.
"I think even if you're not going to live as extremely as Hesher does, to remember the merit in forgetting all those things and just paying attention to what's going on right now and how you feel at the moment, I think that's illuminating and I connected with that and I think everybody has some of that in them," said the 30-year-old actor.
In April, it was confirmed that Gordon-Levitt would be reuniting with his Inception director Christopher Nolan for The Dark Knight Rises.
Filming for the sequel to The Dark Knight began in London last week. The highly-anticipated movie is scheduled for a July 20, 2012 release.
