Keanu Reeves 'passes on Akira lead'

The new version is due to be directed by The Book of Eli's Albert Hughes, with Reeves previously lined up to play the role of Kaneda, a biker gang leader.
According to JoBlo, a Warner Bros spokesperson has denied that the film has occurred problems. The rep explained: "Production on Akira has not halted or been shut down. The film has not yet been greenlit and is still very much in the development stage.
"The exploratory process is crucial to a project of this magnitude, and we will continue to sculpt our approach to making the best possible film."
Other actors who have previously been linked to the film include Robert Pattinson and James Franco.
Keanu Reeves will next appear in 47 Ronin, which is due to arrive at US cinemas on November 21, 2012.
