The Tropic Thunder and Knocked Up star is working with his writing partner Jesse Chabot on a screenplay based on the Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray comic, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Random Acts of Violence was penned by the Jonah Hex writing team and released through Image Comics for Kickstart, a publisher with strong connections to Hollywood.
It tells the story of a pair of creators whose popular character Slasherman takes on a life of his own.
"I know [Baruchel] is a horror fan," Palmiotti told MTV News. "I personally think he's a great actor and Kickstart thinks that Jay and Jesse not only liked the book, but their pitch was something that [Kickstart] thought was dead on. They brought the thing that Justin and I always look for in creative people: a real passion for their work.
"That's far off for now, but if you want my opinion, I would love [Baruchel] to play one of the main two characters - either the writer or artist would be perfect. Honestly, we're thrilled that he can see what we saw in this book, so having him also star in it would be a super bonus."
Baruchel is to star in David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis.
