Warner Bros is reportedly courting former Seinfeld writer David Mandel to pen its upcoming reboot of Fletch.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mandel is in negotiations to write the first draft of its reimagining of the 1985 Chevy Chase original.

Based on Gregory Mcdonald's original book series, Fletch follows investigative reporter I.M. Fletcher as he attempts to solve mysteries while juggling two demanding ex-wives.

In February, Warner Bros acquired the rights to the series and announced plans to launch a reboot that was unrelated to the 1985 film and its 1989 sequel Fletch Lives.

As well as working on the classic sitcom Seinfeld, Mandel has also served as director and executive producer on the Larry David series Curb Your Enthusiasm and is also part of the writing team for Sacha Baron Cohen's The Dictator.

No release window for the reboot of Fletch has been announced, although it is believed to be a high priority for Warner Bros.
