Tobey Maguire to produce 'Little Mermaid'

Tobey Maguire is to produce an adaptation of a reimagined version of the fairytale The Little Mermaid.

Mermaid: A Twist on the Classic Tale by Carolyn Turgeon focuses on a princess's battle to save her kingdom and win the heart of a neighbouring prince, also sought after by an infatuated mermaid.

It was previously reported that Shana Feste, who helmed the Gwyneth Paltrow vehicle Country Strong, is to write and direct the adaptation.

Maguire has recently attached himself to several projects including the "sexual thriller" The Paperboy, from Precious director Lee Daniels.

He also joined the cast of The Life of Pi, an adaptation of Yann Martel's best-seller.
