'Pirates of the Caribbean' tops Aus box office

The latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie has topped the Australian box office.

On Stranger Tides, in which Johnny Depp returns as the legendary Captain Jack Sparrow, generated over $9 million in ticket sales, forcing last week's number one, Water For Elephants, down to second place.

Sci fi thriller Source Code remains at number three in the chart, followed by Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson's action sequel Fast and Furious 5 and Marvel's Thor.

Something Borrowed drops down one spot after generating almost $400,000 in ticket sales, with Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil still remaining in the top 10 at number seven.

The final three spots are filled by Insidious, Australian-made murder story Snowtown and Your Highness.
