According to Variety, the studio is interested in Lin, The Bourne Identity director Doug Liman, and Never Let Me Go helmer Mark Romanek to take on the project, which sees Hugh Jackman reprise his role as Wolverine.
Also under consideration are James Mangold, Gary Shore, Antoine Fuqua, and Jose Padilha, who is currently helming MGM's reboot of the Robocop franchise.
The studio is said to be actively pursuing a replacement director, following Darren Aronosky's departure from the film in March due to family commitments.
"We need to find another director and once we've found that we'll be able to know," Jackman told Coming Soon recently, regarding when the film is likely to resume production. Fox is very anxious to make the movie and we're moving ahead full steam to find another director."
It was previously reported that 30 Days of Night director David Slade and Moon director Duncan Jones have been linked to the project.
The film has been scripted by Valkyrie writer Christopher McQuarrie, and reportedly focuses on Wolverine's travels through Japan.
The Wolverine was originally scheduled for release in 2012. A new release date has yet to be announced.
