In her latest film Midnight in Paris, McAdams plays Inez, the levelheaded and rather dispassionate wife of Owen Wilson's character. According to Star Pulse, the 32-year-old, who typically plays charismatic characters, looked forward to the different role.
She said: "If I had made her likeable, it really wouldn't have worked, so she was a necessary foil. I was happy to play into that."
The actress went on to describe what she liked about her character.
"She was outrageous at times and could be quite extreme," said McAdams. "I liked her practicality. I liked that she didn't pretend to be swept away and she was quite honest about that."
It was recently reported that McAdams is dating her Midnight in Paris co-star Michael Sheen.
The Frost/Nixon star has described his girlfriend as "wonderful", stating that she is one of the most talented actresses that he has ever worked with.
