Next year will see the release of two Snow White adaptations, as well as a reported film based on Sleeping Beauty. However, Singer said that he has been working on his new project for years.
"I was involved with this over two-and-a-half years ago or even longer," Singer explained to IGN. "I was flirting with it almost three years ago."
Singer credited the renewed interest in fairy tales to Tim Burton's recent live-action adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, but insisted that he is not bothered by the association.
"That's cool, it's a renaissance of those kind of movies and it's cool," Singer continued. "I'm happy to be a part of two renaissances, the comic book renaissance and now this one.
"But it wasn't intentional. In fact, I probably would have been shy about jumping into a fairytale movie with all of the projects out there now. I might have actually backed away from it."
Jack the Giant Killer began filming last week and is expected to hit cinemas on June 15, 2012.
