Ryan Gosling will not be helming the remake of the 1980s film The Idolmaker, it has been revealed.

It was previously reported that the Blue Valentine actor would be making his directorial debut with The Idolmaker. However, Gosling has now withdrawn from the project thanks to his busy schedule, according to Moviefone.

The 30-year-old was also supposed to star in the movie, but he is said to have backed out of that as well.

The Idolmaker tells the story of rock promoter and manager Bob Marcucci, who discovered a number of rock 'n' roll stars during his lifetime, including Frankie Avalon and Fabian. The 1980s film starred Ray Sharkey, Peter Gallagher and Joe Pantoliano. It received two Golden Globe nominations, winning the prize for 'Best Actor In A Musical/Comedy'.

Gosling will be seen next in the drama Drive and the comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love. After that, he has three projects that are scheduled to start production in the next year - Logan's Run, The Place Beyond the Pines and The Gangster Squad.
