The 32-year-old, who plays the mutant in the recently-released prequel, claimed that the filmmakers decided to go in a different direction from the comic books with regard to his character's hair, according to the Sunday Mercury.
"He either shaves it or he loses it. I don't know how they'll do it," McAvoy admitted. "In the comic books, he's still very young when he loses it, on the day his powers activate. We decided not to do that."
The Wanted actor recently confessed that he hopes to reprise his role as Professor X in future X-Men films, stating that ideally filmmakers would put together a trilogy.
There has been no confirmation of a sequel, although X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn has spoken to Movie Web of his plans for the sequel, revealing that he will add only one new character to the forthcoming film.
"We will only have one more new character," said Vaughn. "I won't say who he... I won't say who he or she is! But we will only be bringing one more new character in."
The director continued: "Because, I think, as Professor X is in a wheelchair, Magneto needs to have a nemesis he can fight with. Someone that will be his equal. I know who it is. It would be nice if I could say something, but I can't, mate!"
X-Men: First Class topped the US box office this weekend, earning $56 million domestically.
