Angelina Jolie will return to play Evelyn Salt, the titular CIA agent who spent the first film on the run after being accused of being a Russian spy. Kurt Wimmer (Law Abiding Citizen) will once again pen the script, according to Deadline.
Jolie said in August of last year that she was "keen" on making a sequel to the spy thriller, but the studio decided to wait to see how the film performed internationally before pushing forward with the picture.
Director Philip Noyce will not helm the sequel, though he previously has expressed interest in returning to the film.
Noyce recently signed on to make Bloodsport opposite Jean Claude Van-Damme.
Jolie has said she was intrigued by the Salt character because she had long wanted to play the legendary spy James Bond.
Salt grossed $36 million (£22 million) on its opening weekend.
