Jack Black set for magnetic head role
Published Wednesday, May 3 2006, 17:49 BST | By Dave West
Jack Black is to play a worker with a magnetic brain in a new surreal comedy by Michel Gondry.
Be Kind Rewind will see Black's character destroy all the tapes in his mate's video store, scrambling their content with his troublesome head.
In a bit to retain a loyal customer, the pair embark on a bit to recreate a back-catalogue of films including The Lion King, Rush Hour and Back to the Future.
Producer Georges Bermann said writer-director Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the spotless Mind) is keen to get working. "Michel is a super-fast writer," he explained. "He handed in a draft in three weeks. Focus was interested the second they heard the pitch and made the deal within a week."
Alison Thompson, of Focus Features International, who will release the film, welcomed the news of Black's role. She commented: "We are especially excited that Jack Black, whose comic genius is perfectly placed within this imaginative script, has been brought into the fold."
Filming is planned to begin in September.
