Roland Emmerich to direct film on Atari game 'Asteroids'

The script, by Race to Witch Mountain writer Matthew Lopez, is set after asteroids have wiped out most of the human population, as survivors share space colonies with aliens.
Conflict begins after the humans discover the aliens may have been responsible for the destruction of the earth, according to Vulture.
Emmerich has directed several apocalyptic dramas, including The Day After Tomorrow and 2012.
However, he recently completed work on the period political thriller Anonymous, which revolves around the real identity of Shakespeare.
Anonymous, starring Vanessa Redgrave and Rhys Ifans, is set for a September 30 release.
