The duo revealed that they had come up with a follow-up idea for their alien road movie - tentatively titled Pauls - but probably wouldn't be able to find time to make it.
Pegg told Digital Spy: "We were heading to Area 51 to do some promo for the film in the US and being back on the very road that we took on our research trip in 2007, we started to have ideas for this sequel.
"We came up with what we both thought was quite a fun idea. If it came up, [we would make it], the trouble is if we started writing it now it wouldn't be out for three years."
Pegg admitted that the amount of time it would take to digitally create other aliens to accompany Seth Rogen's Paul is the main stumbling block for a potential sequel.
"We'd have to write it, shoot it, there's nine months of post-production to create Paul," he said. "If there's more than one Paul it'd take longer. Until the technology gets cheaper and quicker we'll probably do something else."
Frost added: "I think our window for Pauls is probably closing."
