The Star Trek star provided the performance capture work for the role of the creature in J.J. Abrams's latest movie, according to the Montreal Gazette.
Greenwood said: "It's not your typical acting exercise at all, because you're really the only person in this room with all these cameras in it."
He continued: "It was a very weird thing to offer up all this big emotion while... the rest of the people in the room are picking away at the craft services table. And you never really how it will turn out because it's all left in the hands of the artists and animators who are putting your work together."
The 54-year-old is listed in Super 8's credits as 'Cooper', the name that Abrams and his crew gave to the misunderstood alien in the film.
Greenwood joined the ABC pilot The River in early March. He plays Emmet Cole, a popular television personality and wildlife expert, who disappears in the Amazon.
The actor said in July of last year that he hopes to be a part of Star Trek 2. As of yet, there is no word on whether Greenwood will be involved in the highly-anticipated sequel.
