The actor revealed that his initial reluctance to accept the Captain America role was caused by his aversion to taking on such a monumental project.
"I said no a bunch, and every time I said no, I woke up the next morning so happy and content. I kept saying no; they kept coming back," Evans recalled to GQ. "And eventually I was like, 'You know what? This is your biggest fear - this is exactly what you have to do'."
Captain America producer and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige praised Evans's depiction of the iconic superhero, claiming that the actor has a "comic-book physique".
Evans has previously described the promotional schedule for Captain America as "more demanding" than he had expected.
Captain America: The First Avenger opens in US theatres on July 22 and in the UK on July 29.
