David O. Russell to direct 'Maleficent'?

The director is facing competition from Black Swan helmer Darren Aronofsky and Harry Potter's David Yates, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Tim Burton departed the Disney production last month for undisclosed reasons.
Alice in Wonderland collaborator Linda Woolverton penned the script, which currently has Angelina Jolie attached to the titular role.
Maleficent tells the story of the antagonist from the original Disney version of the fairytale and how she became evil.
Russell has been attached to several projects since the Academy Award-nominated The Fighter.
In May, the director decided to part ways with Sony's adaptation of Uncharted, citing creative differences.
