Hollywood scriptwriter Michael Chabon has reportedly closed a deal to work on Disney's upcoming adventure The Magic Kingdom.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chabon will work alongside director Jon Favreau on the film, which is set in the Disneyland theme park.

It had been rumoured as far back as March that Chabon was close to joining the project, although an agreement was not reached until earlier this week.

Battlestar Galactica writer Ron Moore penned the film's original script, and Chabon has been brought on board to work on rewrites following a change in direction.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning author is best known as part of the screenwriting team behind Spider-Man 2, and more recently worked on the live-action Disney project John Carter of Mars.

A release date for The Magic Kingdom has yet to be announced.
