'Wet Hot American Summer' to get prequel?

Director David Wain has revealed that he has begun preliminary discussions to make a prequel to his 2001 film Wet Hot American Summer.

Wain revealed during an interview with Jeff Goldsmith of The Q&A Podcast that he is in the "early stages" of securing a follow-up to the summer camp comedy but insisted that no specifics have been determined as of yet.

"Yes, we have been talking about a sequel, prequel, something or other," Wain said.

The Wanderlust director also expressed his frustration over Universal Studios' refusal to re-issue a DVD of Wet Hot American Summer with special features for the movie's tenth anniversary this year.

"I told them we would be willing to do a new prequel teaser short for it and new interviews and new material but they were like, 'No, nobody buys it. Nobody cares'," Wain explained.

Wet Hot American Summer starred Paul Rudd, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks and Parks and Recreation's Amy Poehler. Janeane Garofalo, Party Down actor Ken Marino, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Christopher Meloni, 30 Rock's Judah Friedlander and Michael Showalter also featured.
