Warren Beatty to play Howard Hughes in comeback film

The untitled Paramount project will mark the first time Beatty has directed a film since 1998's political comedy Bulworth. He last appeared on-screen in 2001's Town & Country.
Beatty's Hughes project will see him play the ageing magnate as he romances a much younger woman. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star Rooney Mara and The Wrestler's Evan Rachel Wood are in the running to play the female lead, reports Deadline.
Additionally, Beatty may have roles in the film for his wife Annette Bening, Andrew Garfield, Alec Baldwin, Shia La Beouf and Jack Nicholson.
His other filmmaking credits are Heaven Can Wait (1978), Reds (1981) and Dick Tracy (1990).
Martin Scorsese directed Leonardo DiCaprio in 2005's Hughes biopic The Aviator, which featured Baldwin as Pan Am World Airways founder Juan Trippe.
