The actor co-wrote and stars in The Muppets, and admitted earlier this year that it was a struggle to earn financial backing for the project.
Segel has now revealed that he cannot wait to introduce the zany Muppets to a whole new generation of children.
"I couldn't be more thrilled. It's my dream come true. If I could just do honour to the legacy that the Muppets created… I would just be really honoured," Segel beamed to Access Hollywood.
Segel also described his role in The Muppets as a departure from his previous work, adding that the project gave him a chance to display his showmanship.
"I did some singing and dancing. I'm very athletic and nimble," he teased. "I'm very comfortable with my body."
The Muppets, in which Segel stars with Amy Adams, is released in the US on November 23 and February 17, 2012 in the UK.
