Director David Wain revealed earlier this week that he has begun talks to make a follow-up to the 2001 cult comedy, though no deal has officially been secured.
Celebrating Wet Hot American Summer's tenth anniversary, several of the movie's actors told Entertainment Weekly that they would be happy to reprise their roles should a second project materialise.
Paul Rudd, who played Andy in the original film, said: "I think we would all be up for doing it."
Elizabeth Banks added: "Look, any chance to get that group of people all together in a room I will take. It's been such a blessing on my life that I got to be included in that circle of people."
Actor and co-writer Michael Showalter explained: "I'm really excited for the idea of a sequel, or a prequel, or for the first-ever movie that is both a prequel and a sequel. Although David pointed out that that's Godfather II."
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Christopher Meloni expressed similar excitement upon being asked if he would take part in the prequel, telling the publication: "Oh, f**k yeah, in a heartbeat!"
Meloni played camp chef Gene in Wet Hot American Summer, which also starred Janeane Garafalo, David Hyde Pierce, Amy Poehler and Molly Shannon.
