The actor recently claimed that the second Transformers film suffered from having barely any script to work on for much of production, and has freely accepted the poor critical reception that the film garnered.
"The second movie where we had our hiccups, there were good things, but there were more bad things," LaBeouf admitted to MTV News.
He also revealed that after watching the documentary Hearts of Darkness, about the problems that Apocalypse Now faced behind the scenes, he could see definite similarities between the two films.
"You have Francis Ford Coppola saying to camera, 'I have too much money, I have no script, and I'm going to shoot myself in the head'," LaBeouf explained. [Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen was] very similar in terms of Coppola and Mike [Bay] on set, and the insanity of the second movie."
LaBeouf also said that third and final film Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon is the strongest instalment in the trilogy by far.
"This was the first time we've had a fully sussed-out script, with a strong through line, and the best plot and arc Sam's ever had," he added. "[Bay] simplified all his action so that you can thoroughly enjoy it and his simplification of the movie ,we benefited greatly from it."
Transformers: Dark of the Moon is due out in US and UK cinemas on June 29.
