Pee-Wee Herman film script almost ready

Paul Reubens has confirmed that the proposed new Pee-Wee Herman film is finally moving ahead, after completing the first draft of the film's script.

Last year, it was announced that Judd Apatow would serve as producer on the movie, which is being penned by Reubens and Inglourious Basterds star Paul Rust.

"Paul Rust and I just turned in a draft to Judd [Apatow] last week," Reubens revealed to The Hollywood Reporter.

The comedic actor explained that he was enjoying the opportunity to work alongside the Knocked Up director and get his input on the project.

"He's bringing such an interesting side to it," Reubens explained. "He's constantly having us talk about and address the emotional core of Pee-Wee Herman."

"Judd, if you're reading this, I think it's ready to green light!" he added.

Last year Reubens took The Pee-Wee Herman Show to Broadway, where it received a positive critical reception as well as an Emmy Award nomination.

Pee-Wee's Playhouse: The Movie currently has no announced release date.
