The He's Just Not That Into You actor named the political thriller as his third directorial project earlier this year. Now, Affleck has revealed that he will star in the film as well, according to Variety.
Argo tells the story of a secret 1979 CIA mission in which agents rescued six diplomats being held hostage in Iran by convincing the authorities that they were filming a science fiction film.
Affleck will portray a CIA agent who comes up with the bizarre extraction plan.
The film will also star Alan Arkin and John Goodman.
Affleck was rumoured to be joining Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby, but reportedly dropped out to focus on Argo.
Following Argo, the 38-year-old will helm the Hollywood adaptation of Tell No One.
He will also be seen in an as-yet-untitled Terrence Malick project alongside Rachel McAdams, which is due for release next year.
