Art fraudster to get biopic movie

Hollywood producers are to make a movie about an amateur painter who fooled the art world.

John Myatt was jailed for faking pictures by Monet and Picasso – but only after he made thousands by selling them to collectors. Then, on his release, he made a living from orders for his confessed fakes. He even sold to the detective who arrested and lawyers who prosecuted him, they were so impressed with his talents.

Now Myatt has sold the movie rights to his story to Hollywood producers Jay Weston and Fred Levinson, though he will take part in making the film.

"I am sure they will be adding car chases and sex scenes which never were in the original," explained the 60-year-old. "I am told Michael Douglas is also interested in making a film about the case.

"I have signed the contract. They are planning to start shooting at the end of the year at the latest."

Myatt made around 200 fakes between 1985 to 1993, supplying them to partner-in-crime John Drewe. When uncovered he pleaded guilty and served four months of a year sentence in prison.

He claims he earns more now then when he was forging. He explained: "When I was a criminal I made about £13,000 a year. Now I make more than that."
