The Inside Man director blamed Hollywood's treatment of actors for the problems that many of them suffer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"You're out there buck-naked and that is hard," Lee said. "The reason why actors are f**ked up; can you imagine having a job where someone is, 'No, no, no. Your butt's too big. Your head's too big. You're too skinny. Your nose is too big'?"
The director went on to assert that the Academy Awards do not matter.
"There are many times in history where the best work does not get awarded," Lee said. "And I'm not even talking about my own work. So that's why [the Oscars] don't matter."
In 2010, Lee agreed to direct a live concert webcast featuring John Legend and the Roots, confessing that he particularly enjoys filming in a live format.
The director recently teamed up with Mike Tyson to make a HBO drama based loosely on the boxer's early years in the ring.
