'Transformers' takes Australian box office top spot

Transformers: Dark of the Moon has topped the Australian box office by generating over $12 million in ticket sales.

The third instalment of the Shia LaBeouf action movie, which also stars model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in her acting debut, beats animated children's film Cars 2 which took about $3 million in its second week in the chart.

Third place goes to Kristen Wiig and Rose Byrne comedy Bridesmaids, with Jack Black cartoon Kung Fu Panda 2 being knocked down to fourth.

New entry Mr Popper's Penguins comes in at number five, followed by The Hangover Part II, which falls down from fourth place to sixth.

Super 8 made $347,132 in box office ticket sales, closely followed by The Tree of Life with $265,756.

The last two spots in the top 10 go to X-Men: First Class, which was at number six last week and Oranges and Sunshine, which falls down two to number ten.
