The Horrible Bosses director recently announced that he will be developing a new version of the 1983 film, in which a teenage video game fanatic finds out he can launch real-life missiles from his bedroom.
Gordon told Collider: "It will take a long time 'cause we have to write it and then cast it. It's a lot of steps. I'm hoping to get that going, and also sneak a smaller film in between.
"It's a big project, and I'm going to be focusing on it immediately, but not exclusively."
Gordon added that the appeal of remaking the movie, which starred Matthew Broderick, was that "cyber attack is a lot more real" now.
"I'm a bit of a hacker fanatic, and know a fair bit about that industry and cyber crime and cyber warfare. I have a real point of view on the material and how things have changed," he said.
"It's a much more complicated, nuanced, political world we're in, and I think that actually makes for a more interesting plot to tell."
Gordon is currently working on Mixtape with Chloe Moretz and comedy drama The Only Living Boy in New York.
Horrible Bosses will be released in the UK on July 22.
