The Breaking Bad star confessed to having reservations about his role as Julia Roberts's on-screen spouse in the film, claiming that he looked "more like... Roberts's dad than her husband" because of his appearance.
Cranston told Parade: "I was a little nervous. I didn't want the audience to recoil and go, 'What is Julia Roberts doing with that old guy?'
"So I went on a very strict diet. I worked out to make everything tighter, I bleached my teeth, gelled my hair, and I got one of those spray tans. I did anything and everything I could to try to look younger so that people would think, 'Oh yeah, I could see them possibly being together'."
However, Cranston also revealed that he didn't hesitate to accept his role after being personally asked to appear by star Tom Hanks.
"You don't need anymore reason than having Tom Hanks call you and say, 'I want you to do this'. I was like, 'You got it!'" he explained.
Cranston previously opened up about the sex scene he shot with Roberts, revealing that he wore a pouch during production.
Taraji P. Henson also expressed her excitement at having been hand-picked for her role by Hanks, admitting that she would play "a rock" if asked by the actor.
