Christopher Nolan's long-awaited Batman sequel will shortly begin filming at the Pennsylvania city's Carnegie Mellon University, according to a post on the institute's website.
Scenes being filmed are said to feature "an explosion, a prison break, precision stunt driving, gunfire, atmospheric smoke, and controlled pyrotechnic explosions".
It has also been claimed that "one character drives a motorcycle through the [university's] fourth floor lobby, out the front doors and down the steps onto Fifth Ave" in a forthcoming set piece.
The Dark Knight Rises previously filmed on location in Jodhpur, India and in London.
Footage from filming at Nottingham's Wollaton Hall surfaced online at the beginning of the month. The clip features Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) meeting with Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) outside Wayne Manor.
A casting call for The Dark Knight Rises in Pittsburgh last month attracted over 8,000 applicants.
