Peter Jackson and Andy Serkis have released a new video blog providing an update on the filming of The Hobbit.

Director Jackson released an earlier blog in April, which showed many of the cast members and crew together for the first time.

In his second video, Jackson and second unit director Serkis, who will also reprise his role as Gollum, sit and chat in a hobbit's house.

Martin Freeman, who will play the leading role of Bilbo Baggins, can be briefly seen in costume during a scene with Hugo Weaving as Elrond.

On his directing role, Serkis says: "Now I've gone to the dark side. I don't know how you do it."

Jackson replies: "I always tell people I get exhausted at the end of day two and I stay exhausted."

The video was filmed at the end of the first block of filming in New Zealand. Jackson reveals that he plans to film the movies in three blocks, with production continuing in September.

The ten-minute film also shows cast and crew including Sir Ian McKellen and James Nesbitt revealing their plans during their summer break. Jackson also embarks on a location-scouting journey around New Zealand.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There And Back Again are scheduled to be released on December 14, 2012 and December 13, 2013 respectively.
