The actress - who will portray Palin in the upcoming HBO movie Game Change - told MTV News that it was challenging to play a political figure that is still very much present in the public eye.
Moore explained: "It was hard, really, really hard. I had a great director, Jay Roach, who was incredible. I adored him, [he was] so supportive, so smart.
"I did a lot of research, I worked really hard. It's hard to play someone who is very present in people's minds, who's on television, very idiosyncratic, I did my best. We'll see, I hope we pulled it off."
Moore also spoke about the difficulties of nailing Palin's distinctive accent, adding: "I had to listen to it over and over again. My son was embarrassed because [Palin's speeches were] all that was on my iPod."
Game Change - which is an adaptation of a 2008 book on the presidential election - also stars Ed Harris in the role of John McCain, plus Woody Harrelson, Ron Livingston and Jamey Sheridan.
Moore recently claimed that she has found success in her acting career because of her ability to analyse scripts and choose good projects.
