The Cowboys & Aliens director told audiences at Comic-Con that in order to be a successful movie-maker, one must not be intimidated by failure.
"If your movie makes money, you're on a good list," Favreau said. "If your movie doesn't make money, you're not on a good list, and that changes all the time… Once you're comfortable with failure, there's nothing that can be done to you."
Favreau was joined at the Comic-Con panel by director Guillermo del Toro, who shared his own secrets to success.
"Often directors don't hang together," del Toro said. "Because we're jealous [jerks]."
However, del Toro went on to say that directors need each other, revealing that he and Favreau bonded over spaghetti and meatballs.
Cowboys & Aliens star Daniel Craig recently revealed that he always wanted to act in a Western, admitting that he never dreamed he would ever be cast in such a role.
Favreau previously revealed that he cast Craig as the gun-toting lead in Cowboys & Aliens because the James Bond star understands how to play a "badass hero".
