Warner Bros confirmed earlier this week that it had pushed the release date for Zack Snyder's comic book reboot from December 2012 to June 2013 to avoid a potential clash with Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
Cavill told MTV News at the San Diego Comic-Con: "They broke it to me gently. I was just told the other day."
Despite being frustrated about the unexpected delay, Cavill claimed that it is just another aspect of the film industry actors have no control over.
"It's okay, it's nothing to do with me," he said. "That's stuff which I have no control over. I just focus on the character and do my job."
The Immortals star said that he is "raring to go" and finally feels ready to begin filming the iconic role.
Cavill added: "It's exciting, humbling, and about time to get started."
The DC Comics adaptation stars Cavill as Clark Kent, aka Superman, opposite an ensemble cast including Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Amy Adams and Michael Shannon.
Superman: The Man of Steel will now reach cinemas on June 14, 2013.
