The former Tudors star said that he is thrilled to be a part of the superhero reboot, praising the film's screenplay in particular.
"It's fantastic. That's all I can [say]…" Cavill told Access Hollywood. "It's one of the best scripts I've ever read."
The actor went on to reveal that production on the movie has begun in Chicago.
"It's going really well," Cavill said of filming.
The 28-year-old can next be seen playing the Greek warrior Theseus in Immortals opposite Kellan Lutz, Mickey Rourke and Freida Pinto.
Cavill also opened up about what attracts him to such heroic roles.
"It's just everything you dream of as a little boy to be that hero," he said. "I mean, I'm sure there's some little boys that dream of being villains, but it's fun to be the hero because you get to win! Yeah, just that! It's escapism, it's fun, it's fantasy, it's story telling."
Superman: Man of Steel has had its release date pushed back six months to avoid a clash with the first instalment of The Hobbit.
It will now open in June 2013.
Cavill recently said that the move has frustrated him, though he accepts that it is just another aspect of the film industry actors have no control over.
