Umbrella Academy is to be rewritten by Dodgeball director Rawson Thurber.

Thurber is adapting Mark Bomback's first draft of the screenplay, which is based on the Dark Horse Comics miniseries, reports Deadline.

Umbrella Academy is the Eisner Award-winning comic written by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way.

It follows the adventures of a dysfunctional family of superpowered siblings who are reunited after years of estrangement.

Umbrella Academy is the second Dark Horse property in development at Universal, with an R.I.P.D. adaptation featuring Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges and Jodie Foster in the works.

My Chemical Romance led the nominations at the 2011 Kerrang Awards, at which they won 'Best Video' for 'Na Na Na'.
