The Avatar star credited his success in the film industry to a strong work ethic, as well as his refusal to be sidetracked by the party lifestyle.
"I don't really consider myself the most talented actor, but I work a hell of a lot on my ethic," he told Men's Health. "I think it's the best you can do.
"Why waste the opportunity by doing things half-arsed? Whether that's mentally preparing or physically preparing, or just giving a crap about the work. Why waste time by going to every party in town? This isn't what I got into this for."
The 34-year-old added that he was grateful to have flourished as an actor later in life, as he would have struggled to cope with success during his youth.
"Look at people like Tiger Woods or the Williams sisters - all they did was practise. If all this had happened to me in my 20s, I could have gone off the rails, but now my feet are pretty sturdy on the ground."
Worthington last month signed up to an untitled 'space war' film from screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski.
He previously admitted that he "fell into acting" after starting life as a bricklayer.
