The original 1989 film centres on the attempts of John Cusack's character Lloyd Dobler to romance a clever and attractive girl, whose father disapproves of their relationship.
Jerry Maguire director Crowe also said that he had already discussed making the film with John Cusack, The Wrap reports.
He explained: "Say Anything is the only thing that I've written that I would consider [making a sequel to].
"And I've thought about it from time to time, and talked about it with John Cusack once. This is the only story that I've thought there might be another chapter to that at some point."
Crowe's last project was the music documentary Pearl Jam Twenty, which will be aired on PBS on October 21.
Cusack, 45, most recently replaced Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire in the role of a condemned prisoner in The Paperboy.
