New York Magazine reports that the Glee star will take on the role of "a younger love interest" for Wiig's onscreen character, a playwright who moves back in with her mother in New Jersey following a fake suicide attempt.
Wiig then falls in love with Criss's character while under her mother's care.
Annette Bening was confirmed last week in the role of Wiig's mother, a gambling addict forced to take care of her daughter following her breakdown.
Criss was recently confirmed to take over the lead role in Broadway's How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, replacing Daniel Radcliffe.
Filming on Imogene is due to begin later this summer, with an anticipated release during 2013.
