The actress, who is currently expecting her second child with husband Cash Warren, told E Online that Spy Kids writer Robert Rodriguez was impressed with the way she interacted with 3-year-old daughter Honour on the set of Machete.
Alba said: "When I became a mother, I talked to him about getting back to work and how does he do it, how does he juggle spending time with his family [and his five children] but also focus on his career, because he's done it so well.
"So when I was shooting Machete, him seeing me trying to change my kid's diaper and take conference calls and I'm on the set trying to learn lines and trying to do a million things at once kind of inspired him to write the character that I play - a woman who's trying to do a million things at once."
Alba has previously said that motherhood "liberated" her and taught her "how to adapt to any situation".
She recently admitted that she is taking time preparing for the arrival of her second child and is in no hurry to finish the baby's nursery.
Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World is released in UK and US cinemas on August 19.
