Melissa Wallack - who penned Relativity Media's upcoming Snow White movie - will script the comic book project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Emily the Strange was created by Rob Reger as a sticker and clothing brand, before it spawned a comic series published by Dark Horse. A movie adaptation was announced almost three years ago.
Last year, it was reported that Kick-Ass star Chloe Moretz has signed on to portray the title character. A director and supporting cast are yet to be announced.
Universal is developing its own Snow White film titled Snow White and the Huntsman, which was expected to go head-to-head with the Wallack-penned take on the fairy tale before Relativity pushed its release forward.
A potential release window for Emily the Strange is yet to be confirmed.
