Olsen was recently linked to the lead role in a movie adaptation of Candace Bushnell's novel The Carrie Dairies, which details Carrie's arrival in New York City in the 1980s.
The actress appeared at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Luncheon over the weekend and told reporters there is no truth to the rumours that she will star as a younger version of Sarah Jessica Parker's character.
Olsen said: "My friend who loves blogs told me about it when it was happening and it's not real.
"I love Sex and the City and I would never pretend like I could ever be one of those ladies. No-one is as cool as Carrie Bradshaw!"
Blake Lively and Selena Gomez have both been linked to a film version of The Carrie Diaries, while Sex and the City star Kristin Davis has suggested that she doesn't support a reboot.
Bushnell's latest Sex and the City prequel novel Summer in the City was released in April.
Olsen will next star in the thriller Martha Marcy May Marlene, which opens on October 21 in the US and February 3, 2012 in the UK.
